(Old soldiers never die, they

: : Back in the early 1900s in Britain there was a phrase - still heard
from time to time - 'old soldiers never die, they just fade away'. This may
have come from a music hall song, but I'm far from sure. Just a suggestion
as to a possible origin.

: : From Eric Partridge's "Dictionary of Catch Phrases American and
British":

: : "'old soldiers never die: they simply fade away' has been extracted from
the British Army's C20 parody of the song 'Kind Thoughts Can Never Die' and
the tune adopted from it . . . This immortal ditty appeared in John Brophy
and Eric Partridge, 'Songs and Slang of the British Soldier: 1914-1918,'
1930, and has been preserved in 'The Long Trail,' lamentably out of print in
Britain, but to be reprinted in the US.
: : It was 'given its first familiarity in US in a speech by General
MacArthur on his recall from Korea; still not forgotten' (Prof. John W.
Clark, 1977)."

“Old soldiers never die, they just fade away”
套路,格式是:blah blah never die, they just dada dada,比如现在公牛的景况,
就可以说“Old bulls never die, they just fade away”,还有许多搞笑的变化,比

Old teachers never die, they just lose their class
Old Christmas trees don't die, they just pine away.
Old steelworkers never die, they just rust in peace.
Old carpenters never die, they just get board.
Old sawmill workers never die, they just lumber off.
Old Freudians never die, they just slip away

Old Soldiers Never Die

There is an old cookhouse, far far away
Where we get pork and beans, three times a day.
Beefsteak we never see, damn-all sugar for our tea
And we are gradually fading away.

cho: Old soldiers never die,
Never die, never die,
Old soldiers never die
They just fade away.

Privates they love their beer, 'most every day.
Corporals, they love their stripes, that's what they say.
Sergeants they love to drill. Guess them bastards always will
So we drill and drill until we fade away.

Old Soldiers Never Die (2)
(Gene Autry, William Burch and Carl Cotner)

CHORUS
Old Soldier's Never Die
Never die, never die
Old Soldier's Never Die
They just fade away.

NARRATION:
On the seventh day of December
In the year of forty-one
The free world met disaster
At the hands of the Rising Sun
From the bastions of Corregidor
Pearl Harbor and Bataan
Came the sound of war and fury
And the Death March of free man.

Then from the land of way down under
A mighty voice did say
Our cause is just, in God we trust
I will return someday
From Mindanao to Tarawa
Our battle song it grew
Till on Surabachi
At last Old Glory flew.

From Iwo, Leyte, and a thousand Isles
Our just cause never ceased
Until one day, he did return
And once more, there was peace
Now somewhere, there stands the man
His duty o'er and won
The world will ne'er forget him
To him we say, "Well done."
