    Introduction
A    Clothingpretty expensiveAmerica.  Asgeneral rule prices are fixed, so don’t try bargaininganything, except at some private salesflea markets.  Of course, when they buycar, they will negotiate.
衣服在美国相当昂贵。般来说,价格固定,所以都用着讨价还价,除非私人买卖,跳蚤市场。当然,当他们买车时,他们还会协商价格

Anna:  Speakingthat trip, Alan boughtshirt atdepartment store, butsleeves are too long.  Do you knowseamstress or tailor2 who can shorten them?
Grace: know several.  But wouldn'tbe easiertakeshirt backexchangeforright size?
Anna:  Isn't that complicated3?
Grace:  No, it's easy.  We'll just takeshirt backthe men’s departmentshow themsales slip4.  They'll exchangeforcorrect size or give yourefund5.
Anna:  We?  Do you wantgo with me?
Grace:  Sure. love goingthe mall.
Anna:  What do you do there… hang around6, likekids?

Helpful Information: 
At most stores, one can always exchange products or even getrefund withincertain amounttime if he or she still hassales slipthe productin good condition.

Liz:  Are you having any luck?
David:  Not really.  There aren't any used bookcases listed.  But there arefew rummage sales8on Saturday. think I'll gothem.
Liz:  Do you mind ifgo with you?
David:  Not at all.  These private sales are great placesbargain.  And sometimes you can find terrific things among alljunk.
Liz: learnednegotiate9 from my mother. thoughtwas pretty good at bargaining, buthadproblemother day at Kimble's Department Store.
David:  What happened?
Liz: wantedbuybeautiful wool sweatermy girlfriend.  It was priced at forty dollars, sostarted by offeringsalesclerk thirty.

In America, supermarkets usually mail their sales paperscustomers.  Also flea markets are popular, too.  Sometimes you can getlike new name-brand product there atvery low price forcoupledollars.  Onethe things that make flea markets appealingChinesethat most prices are opennegotiation.  It seemsbeChinese traditionhaggle overpricevirtually anything thatbought.

Roy:  It looks as though everyoneline reads them, or at least looks atheadlines.
Iris: think we pickedright line.  This one seemsbe moving more quickly thanothers.
Roy:  Maybe our checkerfaster at scanning2food.
Iris:  I'm glad.  We have only about twenty things here,I'ma hurryget home.

Checker:  Good afternoon, ladies.  Paper or plastic?
Iris:  Paper bags, please.  You know, yoursthe fastest-moving linethe store.
Checker:  Well, I'll letgo this time, butthe future, please don't useexpress line with so many items.

Joe:  That's my problem. don't havelotoptions.
Rita:  What do you mean?  Thisa big store, isn't it?
Joe:  Yes, buthave unusually big feet.  That wouldn't be too mucha problem except that they're also very wide,onlyfew brands sell shoes thatcan fit into.
Rita:  So how do you usually go about5 buying shoes, then? 
Joe:  Well, firstall,can only gocertain stores that can guarantee6 melarge selection.
Rita:  Well, you'rethe right store.  If they don't have it, no one will.
Joe:  After thatchoose something from onethe few brands thatknow will fit me. prefer white, soask thembring mepairwhite sneakersmy size.  Since I’m usually only given one or two pairsshoes that meet my qualifications7,makesa very easy choice.

Karen:

Yes, that'sprice they were advertisingat. was hopingmight gosale soon.  Why, how much did you payit?
Janet:   I boughtfor one hundredforty-five dollars at Helen's Boutique8. didn't knowcould getcheaper somewhere else.
Karen:  Of course!  Everything at Helen'soverpriced9,they sell things that you can find at almost every other clothing store!  Why didn't you shop around?
Janet: don't know,just sawdressthought about how prettylookshow muchwanted it. guesswas too impulsive20.

 

Helpful Information:
The same products may be priced quite differently at different stores.  This happens everywhere.  Shopping around may takelottime, butcan be very worthwhile. 
相同产品,商店,价格都可能很样。这点到处都样。所以到处逛逛可能会占用很多时间,但可能很值得。
